Application Engineer Location: Adairsville, GA
Full-Time | On-Site Join Yanmar as an Application Engineer Yanmar America is seeking an Application Engineer to join our team in Adairsville, Georgia. This position is responsible for evaluating diesel and gasoline engines, hybrid and fully electric powertrains, and related accessories to ensure compliance with Yanmar standards and proper performance within customer applications. The Application Engineer works directly with customers and cross-functional internal teams to capture engineering requirements, conduct field testing and analysis, recommend application improvements, and support the design and development of equipment and systems that meet customer needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on technical work, problem solving, testing, customer interaction, and seeing engineering solutions applied to real-world equipment. What You'll Do -
Create and maintain engine, hybrid, and EV specifications and scopes of supply based on customer application requirements. -
Ensure compliance with Yanmar standards outlined in emission-related installation instructions, application manuals, and engine/powertrain specification books. -
Conduct field testing using data acquisition systems on customer production-intent equipment in real-world environments. Applications may include transport refrigeration units, APUs, skid steers, wheel loaders, pumps, generators, street sweepers, sprayers, and other off-road equipment. -
Perform engineering calculations and analysis of collected or customer-supplied test data. -
Negotiate and manage engineering improvements for sub-standard systems proposed by OEM and distributor-based customers. -
Maintain project updates in Salesforce for active applications and manage the Installation Review workflow. -
Manage multiple internal and external projects at various stages of completion while maintaining attention to detail, lead times, and target schedules. -
Create technical documentation for finished goods, including kit installation instructions, kit/powerpack matching tables, and assembly instructions for Production. -
Assist the Sales team with proper engine and option selection for new applications. -
Support After-Sales and Service functions through engineering analysis of pattern failures, engine dynamometer testing, and other technical evaluations. -
Assist the Design team with design concepts, calculations, simulations, and design validation. -
Assist the Testing team with product validation, including prototype engine rework, component fabrication, dynamometer testing, and other test equipment. -
Develop an understanding of processes within Parts, Service, Warranty, and other departments and assist with issues involving distributors, OEMs, and dealers. -
Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of Yanmar Industrial products. -
Apply engineering curiosity and critical thinking to customer applications and engineering challenges. -
Develop a thorough understanding of Yanmar engineering guidelines and practices. -
Help improve Yanmar engineering practices through training sessions, discussions with managers and senior engineers, and continued self-study. -
Participate in trade shows relevant to Yanmar's customer base. -
Communicate with Yanmar's global Regional Headquarters, primarily Yanmar Japan, including communication outside of normal business hours as needed. What We're Looking For -
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or another related technical degree. -
1–3 years of experience in a related field, including co-op or internship experience. -
Ability to manage multiple projects at various stages of completion. -
Excellent oral and written communication skills. -
Knowledge of data acquisition and testing methods. -
Strong Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. -
Ability and willingness to think critically and approach technical challenges with engineering curiosity. -
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to achieve desired results with little direct supervision. -
Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage lead times and target schedules. -
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with customers, engineering teams, Sales, Service, dealers, distributors, OEMs, leadership, and global Yanmar teams. Preferred Skills -
Mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience working with engines is strongly preferred. -
Familiarity with CREO and Windchill, including 3D modeling and drawing. -
Knowledge or experience related to diesel/gasoline engines, hybrid systems, electric powertrains, testing, or similar applications. Additional Requirements -
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%. -
Willingness to communicate with global Yanmar Regional Headquarters, primarily Yanmar Japan, outside of normal business hours. -
Ability to work 8+ hours per day in a plant/office setting. -
Ability to navigate all areas of the building and facility as needed. -
Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds in an office, customer, or similar setting. -
