Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Distribution and Collections System Supervisor, this position performs tasks related to the installation, repair, and maintenance of the City’s utilities systems. The role supports construction, maintenance, and repair of utility infrastructure including water mains, service lines, hydrants, sewer lines, plants, wells and manholes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in installation, maintenance, and repair of water, sewer and stormwater infrastructure.
- Dig and backfill trenches; assist with pipe laying and connections.
- Load and transport materials, tools, and equipment.
- Operate light equipment under supervision.
- Assist in locating and marking underground utilities.
- Maintain and clean sewer lines and related systems.
- Assist with installing and reading water meters.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Work in confined spaces and follow safety procedures.
- Respond to emergencies such as main breaks and overflows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience in construction or utilities preferred.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in various weather conditions.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license required.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with the public.
- Ability to work under stress and in emergency situations.
Additional Requirements
Must obtain within 24 months: Class F license, confined space certification, First Aid/CPR, and flagger certification. Position requires participation in on-call rotation and emergency response.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and involves physical labor including lifting up to 75 pounds, working in trenches, and around equipment.
