Job Summary

The City of Emerson is seeking a dedicated volunteer to serve on its Planning and Zoning Commission. This role contributes to the City’s growth and development by reviewing and recommending plans, policies, and programs that guide land use and community development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Review and recommend approval, disapproval, or conditional approval of zoning and development requests to the Mayor and City Council.
• Review and decide on variance requests.
• Recommend adoption or amendments to the City’s Comprehensive Plan.
• Participate in meetings and discussions regarding planning and development matters.

Meeting Schedule

• The Planning and Zoning Commission meets once per month at 7:00 pm.

Additional Requirements

• Members will have access to training in Planning and Zoning to support their role.
• All planning and zoning commission members must have resided in the city for a minimum of one year prior to appointment to the planning and zoning commission.
