POSITION TITLE: Teacher - Lead Special Education - ANTICIPATED POSITION for the 2026-2027 School Year
LOCATION(S): TBD
START DATE: July 27, 2026
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Act as the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative at educational meetings for IEP, Manifestation Determinations, eligibilities, etc.
• Facilitate special education meetings
• Facilitate timeline tracking for IEP and RCM dates
• Support administration in personnel/scheduling matters pertaining to students with disabilities
• High School: ensure student schedules match IEP, transition plans, and graduation requirements Middle and Elementary: ensure schedules match IEP services
• Collaborate with school testing coordinator to ensure accurate testing accommodations and grouping.
• Respond to parent/school phone calls regarding issues with special education student needs, IEPs, requests for evaluations or other paperwork
• Ensure accuracy of IEPs and Meeting minutes; facilitate having corrections made on the documents by the case manager
• Ensures the accurate coding is done once testing is complete
• Facilitate new student enrollments
• Facilitate transfer of IEP’s records for transitioning students
• Coordinate and verify Full time equivalent (FTE) counts for state and federal funding
• Oversee Due Process Issues
• Conduct regularly scheduled meetings to share/discuss information gained in workshops and meetings
• Serve as the liaison between Central Office and School
• Facilitate the replenishment of supplies and materials; maintain inventory of school-based special education equipment/materials
• Assist in management of the needs of medically fragile students (in collaboration with nurse/case manager)
• Provide support to school personnel in regard to special education issues
• Follows federal and state laws as well as Bartow County Board of Education policies
• Maintains prompt and regular attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
• Valid Georgia PSC teaching certificate in special education
• Minimum three (3) working with students with disabilities
• Training and experience in educating students with disabilities
SKILLS: Ability and knowledge to effectively lead the special education program at the school level. Must be familiar with special education laws and policies. Training in special needs of disabled population, including first aid and controlling aggressive behavior. Physical demands – must be able to stand and walk a minimum of six hours; lift, carry and pull up to 150 pounds.
EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working in a special education program preferred.
